Concert Organisations

The Committee for the Concertgebouw Foundation

Each year the Committee for the Concertgebouw Foundation (Stichting Comité voor het Concertgebouw) organises some 400 concerts in the Main Hall and the Recital Hall. The Committee for the Concertgebouw Foundation was created at the end of the 1980's. It is under this name that the Concertgebouw organises an alternating programme that involves both Dutch and international musicians and varies from performances by world famous symphony orchestras to concerts for children, contemporary music, vocal concerts and world music.

The Concertgebouw also works in close co-operation with impresarios and other (orchestral) organisations that organise (classical) concerts in the Main Hall and Recital Hall. In addition to the regular users of the Main Hall and Recital Hall there are several other professional and amateur organisations that rent the facilities on an irregular or incidental basis.

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

Around the globe, the 'velvet' strings, the 'golden' tone of the brass and what is often described as the particularly Dutch timbre of the woodwinds have won the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra its exceptional place amongst that tiny handful of world famous, top orchestras.Of an average of 120 concerts given annually, about 30 take place abroad, on the world's most important podia. Their foundation, however, is consistently the season subscription concert series in Amsterdam's own Concertgebouw, where for over 110 years, the orchestra has had the support of its own loyal audience.

The Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra

The Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dutch Chamber Orchestra are among the leading orchestras in the Netherlands. Each season they give some 55 concerts the Concergebouw's Main Hall. Alongside the concerts it gives in the Concertgebouw, the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra also regularly plays in the Vredenburg Music Centre in Utrecht. Both orchestras also accompany the Dutch Opera in the majority of its performances (app. 70 per year) in the Music Theatre in Amsterdam. The words that best describe the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dutch Chamber Orchestra are enthusiasm and diversity.

Under the leadership of chief conductor Yakov Kreizberg, the two orchestras perform a very broad range of work which features a number of leading soloists. Top violinist Gordan Nikolic is the musical leader of the Dutch Chamber Orchestra, which is celebrating it's 50th anniversary this year with a.o. a festive concert on November 19th in The Concertgebouw.

The Kam provides a stage for the continuously changing offer in chamber music, and stimulates and initiates the innovation of chamber music in the Netherlands.
