Daniel Barenboim
Works by Chopin
Where to begin with such a brilliantly multi-talented musician as Daniel Barenboim? Once a child prodigy and now a world-famous pianist, Barenboim went on to become an equally renowned orchestral and opera conductor, showered with honorary titles and once married to the acclaimed cellist Jacqueline du Pré, who died in 1987. Barenboim also happens to be a very politically aware person; he is actively committed to helping resolve the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians, he brings together young promising musicians from both sides, and he has also proved to be an erudite cultural observer in his writings. Obviously, such a diverse biography cannot be summed up in a few sentences. The pianist will be performing an all-Chopin programme in the Main Hall on 17 February. Perhaps that is the best way to get to know him!
Barenboim made his first guest appearance in one of the Concertgebouw’s Own Programming series.
