Superb interpretations from charismatic women
Seeing and hearing a world-famous soloist perform on the Main Hall stage is a magical experience. This season’s line-up features five of the world’s favourite female soloists. Virtuoso Yuja Wang will play Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Münchner Philharmoniker, conducted by Valery Gergiev. Mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli will entrance the entire hall with her voice: the last time she was here, one reviewer wrote that ‘Bartoli had the audience spellbound in her hypnotic grip.’
If there’s anyone who can be guaranteed to give her audience an unforgettable evening, it’s pianist Mitsuko Uchida. Accompanied by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, she’ll play two concertos by her favourite composer, Mozart. You’ll hear more Mozart piano music played by Katia and Marielle Labèque, a renowned duo for decades now. Seeing and hearing the two sisters play together is an intense experience that will stay with you for a long time.
