Season 2020-2021
Songs from all over the continent
Let yourself be carried away on a musical tour of Europe as you listen to songs performed by top singers and pianists. Alexandre Tharaud will put soprano Sabine Devieilhe in the spotlight, and together they’ll perform some of the cream of the French song repertoire. Bass Mikhail Petrenko will focus on Rachmaninoff, evoking a lost Russian world. You’ll hear tenor Mark Padmore sing German lieder by Schumann, accompanied by Paul Lewis, in a programme that includes his cycle Dichterliebe.
Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte and Mahler’s Rückert Lieder will be given an enthralling interpretation by countertenor Bejun Mehta. Rising star Sophie Rennert will be returning to the Recital Hall following her performance in the Mahler Festival 2020. She’s been called ‘a many-coloured mezzo: subtle, with dramatic intelligence and brilliance in the high range’.
