Dutch musicians on the verge of their international breakthrough
Dutch musicians on the verge of their international breakthrough The Young Dutch Stars series features young musicians about to conquer the world. Soprano Lilian Farahani has already sung with the Dutch National Opera and Nederlandse Reisopera, and has released her first CD, with works by Jake Heggie.
Cellist Laura van der Heijden’s name is as Dutch as tulips and windmills, but she grew up in England. For her, playing the cello is pure necessity. ‘If I can’t play cello I get gloomy’, she told the NRC Handelsblad. In 2018 she won an Edison for her ‘overwhelmingly good’ debut CD. Among the pieces she’ll be playing is the Chopin Cello Sonata. Pianist Yang Yang Cai won the Young Pianist Foundation’s Piano Competition in 2019. The jury praised her ‘solid technique’ and ‘refined playing’. She will close this series, with a programme of Beethoven, Scriabin and Ravel.
