In brief: The Concertgebouw

With more than 900 activities (almost 80 percent of which are concerts) and over 700,000 visitors to concerts, educational projects, and private events each year, The Concertgebouw is one of the most visited concert halls in the world. Since its foundation, The Concertgebouw has been a privately funded arts institution with a rich tradition of (concert) sponsorship and fundraising. The Concertgebouw is responsible for 95% of its own income.

Our mission

The Concertgebouw connects and enriches people with a sublime musical experience.

Our vision

The Concertgebouw aims to be accessible to everyone with its unique building and high-quality offerings. We strive to make music history every day and to remain among the world's top concert halls. We cherish our building and our private character: we are responsible for 95% of our own income. We want to pass on The Concertgebouw, our artistic offerings, and our education program to future generations in top condition and in a sustainable manner. All employees are fully committed to this goal and are given every opportunity to do so in a safe and inclusive working environment.

Guiding principles: basic principles

1. We stand for artistic freedom, integrity, and equality. There is room for controversy. In our polarizing world, it is inevitable that there will sometimes be friction: we do not shy away from that. The basic principle is that all concerts that fit within our artistic policy frameworks and rentals that we have accepted must be allowed to take place. We only deviate from this in exceptional cases, such as in the case of activities:

a. which, in the opinion of The Concertgebouw, are so offensive and/or hurtful to individuals or groups of individuals that they are incompatible with the mission of the Concertgebouw;

b. which, in the opinion of The Concertgebouw, do not comply with general standards of public order, morality, decency, and safety; and/or

c. with artists/musicians/orchestras who are directly or indirectly involved in or incite discrimination, violence, or serious violations of international and humanitarian law (including war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide).

2. Our business operations, activities, and decisions are in line with our mission, vision, strategy, and rules of conduct (no room for discrimination, exclusion, inappropriate behavior, etc.) and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
