The new supergroup Mandé Sila, with at its centre the Senegal-born Malian singer and guitarist Habib Koité, is coming to the Recital Hall for a semi-acoustic concert. Koité will be joined by Aly Keïta on balafon and Lamine Cissokho on kora. These three standard-bearers of western Africa’s musical tradition have found each other in Mandé Sila. The name means ‘the way of the Mandingo empire’ and symbolises the languages, cultures and music of West Africa. The trio will be joined on the stage by Habib’s regular percussionist Mama Koné.
Malian Habib Koité, one of Africa's most popular and recognised musicians, is a modern troubadour who captivates audiences with his musicality, wit and wisdom. Senegalese kora player Lamine Cissokho is the descendant of a famous family of griots whose traditions date back to the 14th century. Aly Keïta from Côte d'Ivoire is world-renowned for his mastery of the balafon, his impressive virtuosity and his unique sound. The trio will be joined on stage by Habib's long-time percussionist Mama Koné (Djembe, calabash, electronic pad), who has also performed with Eric Bibb.
