Join Douwe Bob on a journey through his favourite genre: country music! Douwe presents the history of country in the US, in stories and songs. How the music is descended from folk music of the Irish who immigrated to America. How great music was born when 'Three Chords and the Truth' came together. And the developments we see today, now that country is making its mark on contemporary pop music.
From traditional Irish folk music to blues, bluegrass, soul and country. From Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams to Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash, and winding up at Post Malone, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. And of course, Douwe will tell you about their impact and inspiration on his own music. This concert, his first in The Concertgebouw’s Main Hall, is a dream finally come true for this kid from Amsterdam.

Jazz and pop music
It goes without saying that The Concertgebouw and jazz & pop music make a perfect combination. The stages of both the Main Hall and the Recital Hall have borne witness to nearly the whole of jazz history. Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald have both performed here, as have Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong. Famous pop stars and bands that have graced the stage of the Main Hall include Frank Zappa, the Doors and the Eagles, to name but a few. Legendary concerts, in the present as well as the past.
