In Elaia, composer Amir Swaab will present a series of character pieces for piano, violin, cello and accordion. These new compositions meld together tradition and innovation into original timeless melodies. The pieces are poetic, full of personality and accessible, as well as harmonically rich and multi-layered.
The music will be played by violinist Merel Vercammen, cellist Hadewych van Gent and pianist Mattias Spee, three musicians famous not only for their high-level playing and musical depth, but also for charted their own paths in the classical-music world.
Elaia is an unusual tribute to melody and harmony: new musical stories set in a universal idiom. Music intended not to grate but to touch; not to break but to build. Searching for connection, beauty and eloquence, Amir Swaab finds perspective for the future in an ancient source.
