Orchestra
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit next to the members of the orchestra during a concert? Come and experience it for yourself on 9 February, when Iván Fischer will be conducting music by all seventeen composers whose names grace the balconies in the Main Hall. In the middle of the hall, Maestro Fischer will be surrounded by the orchestra and the audience. You’ll literally be sitting in the middle of the music.
The selection of composers’ names immortalised on the cartouches (or name plaques) on the balconies of the Main Hall says a lot about the musical history of The Concertgebouw and the orchestra, which comes to life when Iván Fischer conducts works by all seventeen composers. Well-known melodies are heard alongside unknown gems. Soprano Anna Prohaska sings songs by Richard Strauss, Diepenbrock, Reger and Ravel. Among the instrumental works on the programme are Debussy’s Danse profane and Mahler’s Blumine. It’s a unique programme full of new discoveries.
