UvA Orchestra J.Pzn Sweelinck
The UvA Orchestra J.Pzn Sweelinck, Amsterdam's oldest symphony orchestra, returns to The Concertgebouw with their programme Intangible. Intangible describes the music, the fervour and the intimate atmosphere that the young musicians bring into being, and the appropriate, but intangible distance at which they perform. The orchestra comprises approximately 70 enthusiastic students who, in parallel to their studies, come together to make music at a high level. The concerts are characterised by the passionate dedication of the musicians. Playing together again after a long time apart, the passion of the players is more palpable than ever.
Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky
The UvA Orchestra J.Pzn Sweelinck will be playing a special programme of works by Russian composers. Normally performing grand symphonic works, during this concert the orchestra will play pieces in a more intimate setting. First, the string players will perform the lyrical String Serenade by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This will be followed by the thematic harmonies of Igor Stravinsky's Symphonies of Winds, performed by the wind and brass. Finally, the orchestra will unite to play excerpts from Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky.
