Remembrance Concert with Tim Knol

Pál Hermann travelled throughout Europe in the 1930s as a cellist and composer. As a Jewish musician, his life was abruptly cut short. He was murdered in 1944 and his beloved Gagliano cello disappeared without a trace. Only recently did the instrument unexpectedly resurface in the hands of a young cellist during the Queen Elisabeth Competition. Thanks to the inscription on the inside, Ego sum anima musicae, I am the soul of music, the cello could be identified. During this commemorative evening, the cello will be brought to the Concertgebouw and played.

But that's not all. Singer-songwriter Tim Knol, together with the Young Academicians of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, will provide musical accompaniment for the evening. With his warm voice and narrative songs, he creates an atmosphere of attention and tranquillity that fits seamlessly with the meaning of this commemoration.

Margriet Vroomans will be talking live with Corrie Hermann, linking her personal memories with the story of her father and his cello. This evening, history, music and remembrance will come together in a special way.
