This concert has no intermission
The Magic Horn is an interactive concert in which we bring Gustav Mahler’s fairy-tale world to life together. Imagine: a piano stands alone in the room. Soft, crackling music drifts out from within it... You press a key and the air fills with something that is nothing yet, but could become anything. Then you press a second key... Lovely! A third key. No, that doesn’t sound right. Perhaps… this one? Before you know it, you’re floating in a wondrous world between once upon a time and never, full of beautiful stories with special surprises. When suddenly an arm dances out of the piano or a colourful tree grows, you know for sure: right in the middle of your head, between your left and right ear, anything is possible!
De Wonderhoorn was created in 2025 for the Mahler Festival.

What does a house sound like? Or a wheel? What do you hear when you are in love? Or in the seventh heaven? The Concertgebouw’s Children’s Concerts take children aged 4 to 12 on a wonderful journey of discovery into the world of music, instruments and musicians. Breathtaking music and stories that challenge children to listen, to look, to sing and to participate. They learn about the most beautiful sounds and modern and ancient masterworks from near and far in a playful manner. Please note: narration during these concerts will be in Dutch.
