Hearing Tchaikovsky’s First Symphony, you can imagine childhood memories of snowy winters. With Finlandia, Sibelius was boldly composing an unofficial Finnish national anthem at a time when Finland could only dream of independence. Karina Canellakis will conduct ‘her’ Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Choir in a concert full of atmosphere that evokes gorgeous winter landscapes, even in the warmth of concert hall.
