Nieuwe blik terug: Surinamese composers (Dutch spoken)

Musician, presenter, and documentary maker Orville Breeveld puts the spotlight on composers and musicians who are unjustly overlooked in Nieuwe Blik Terug (New Perspective). This edition of Nieuwe Blik Terug focuses on Surinamese classical composers and musicians. The great musical predecessors of the past are brought into dialogue with contemporary composers from the Surinamese-Dutch community. Special attention is paid to the recently deceased writer, poet, and composer Astrid H. Roemer, whose oeuvre is of lasting significance to Dutch and Surinamese culture. With performances by flutist Ronald Snijders, pianist Dywel Braaf, singer Joancy, and others, it promises to be an evening full of sound, heritage, and discovery.
