Scherpdenkers: Sheila Sitalsing and Berlage Saxophone Quartet (Dutch spoken)

The ‘Scherpdenkers’ (‘clear thinkers’) series presents stories and music that provide food for thought. Tonight, journalist, writer and economist Sheila Sitalsing joins the Berlage Saxophone Quartet. Waar ik me voor schaam (‘what I’m ashamed of’) is an evening devoted to the astonishing ease with which people yielded to the temptations of totalitarianism nearly a hundred years ago. About a grandfather who collaborated with the Germans for the entire war and never showed any remorse for its gruesome consequences form the rest of his life. About insignificant choices with major consequences, about how one thing can happen because the other one existed. About countering the after-the-fact apologies, since everyone always can choose to do the right thing. Four saxophones will play fitting music by Eisler, Cage and Van Klaveren.

After the concert is over, have a drink (included in the ticket price) and chat about what you‘ve heard.
