Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands to Attend European Union Youth Orchestra Concert

On the evening of Wednesday, August 20, Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands will attend the final concert of the season by the European Union Youth Orchestra at The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Under the baton of conductor Iván Fischer, the youth orchestra will perform Romanian Rhapsody by composer George Enescu. This will be followed by three works by Igor Stravinsky: Scherzo à la russe, Four Norwegian Moods, and The Firebird Suite. Violinist Alina Ibragimova will appear as soloist in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.

The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is the youth orchestra of the European Union. Founded in 1976, the orchestra aims to promote cultural cooperation, unity, and friendship among young Europeans. It offers talented young musicians the opportunity to gain international experience while working with renowned conductors.

The EUYO is made up of 140 musicians between the ages of 16 and 26. Each year, the members are selected from over 3,000 applicants from all EU member states. For many, a place in the orchestra serves as a springboard to a career in one of Europe’s leading orchestras. The concert on August 20 marks the final performance of the EUYO’s European tour.
