World-famous String Quartets (Friday)

For intimate concerts by the finest international string quartets, the Recital Hall is the place to be. Each quartet brings its own musical signature. The Schumann Quartett, for instance, conveys the warm depth of Brahms, whilst the Pavel Haas Quartet brings Dvořák’s sparkling American Quartet to life. The legendary Borodin Quartet introduces you to the haunting soundscapes of Shostakovich, the composer with whom it shares a long history. 

Impressionist nuances and Nordic clarity come together in the Juilliard String Quartet’s performance of Ravel and Grieg. The idiosyncratic Tetzlaff Quartett opts for the power and lyricism of Mendelssohn. The Simply Quartet, too, features Mendelssohn on their music stands alongside Haydn and Mozart. Like the established ensembles in this series, this young quartet can count itself among the very best.
