Wagner's legendary masterpiece Der Ring des Nibelungen celebrates its 150th anniversary! Reason for The Hague String Orchestra Ciconia Consort under the lead of Dick van Gasteren to present a program about the mythical stories of Brünnhilde, Siegfried and the rhine gold that have their origins in the early medieval Edda and Nibelung saga. Ciconia and the young talented cellist Alexander Warenberg, winner of the Ciconia Prize at the International Music Competition ARD Munich, make a musical journey through the sources of these famous stories.

Wagner, Schumann & Hartmann

From Brünnhilde's kingdom of Iceland comes the enchanting music of Jón Leifs, a look at the wide, rugged landscapes from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Wagner's Quartet Satz (Dutch premiere), for which his Siegfried Idyll was the inspiration, brings our hero back to life and with Schumann's romantic Cello Concerto the rhine gold will come home again. But not before the passionate battle for power of the ring is settled with Hartmann's lyrical Fourth Symphony.

Dutch music magazine Luister wrote: 'the love with which the Ciconias perform the pieces is heartwarming'. And Klassieke Zaken mentioned 'a dazzling ensemble, perfectly cared for down to the last detail'.
