Miles Davis remains one of the most iconic figures in jazz history. All his concerts in our Main Hall - especially his midnight shows in 1956 and 1960 - are legendary. Davis' unstoppable drive for innovation inspires generations of musicians to this day and extends beyond his own time. In the year he would have turned 100, Brussels Jazz Orchestra and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire join forces for (...) What's Not There, a unique project that does not look back out of nostalgia but looks forward with a fresh, contemporary vision.
(...) What's Not There
Akinmusire dived into Davis' rich oeuvre and selected some of his personal musical highlights. This music not only constitutes a tribute but lends itself as a basis for both new creations and inventive arrangements, specially tailored for soloist Akinmusire, who plays the absolute leading role. The result is a dynamic musical narrative that reflects the essence of Davis' heritage while breaking it open through a contemporary interpretation. (...) What's Not There is a creative dialogue with Davis' legacy - a contemporary search for the impact and meaning of his innovation. Proof that his artistic spirit is still relevant and continues to challenge and inspire new generations.
