Come celebrate the beginning of Chanuka in the Recital Hall! Watch as the candles of the chanukiah (menorah) are lit, to the singing of world-famous cantor Simon Cohen from Israel. Maestro Jules van Hessen has put together a varied programme of gems from the Jewish and Israeli musical traditions.

Musicians and repertoire
We have invited the world renown and inspiring Cantor Simon Cohen from Israel as the soloist for the evening. The concert's musical director will be the Dutch star conductor Jules van Hessen. Maestro Van Hessen has prepared a broad spectrum program incorporating Jewish, Israeli, classical, and contemporary music.
Chanukah 2021
Chanukah, the festival of lights, is an ancient Jewish holiday. The Chanukah Concert Foundation and the Jewish Community of Amsterdam will be celebrating the 1st night of Chanukah by jointly lighting the Chanukia (traditional eight armed candelabra) on the stage of The Concertgebouw. We’ve put together a special program which will appeal to both a Jewish and non-Jewish audience. Everyone is welcome to attend.
