The central theme is musical friendships. You will enjoy the intimate sounds of Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, Elgar's colourful Enigma Variations and the now world-famous, highly acclaimed reinterpretation of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons by contemporary composer Max Richter. After the concert, you are welcome to join us in the foyers around the Main Hall for a festive after-party – an evening with a bow on top.
Wagner
Wagner's Siegfried-Idyll is the ultimate and extremely tender declaration of love to his wife Cosima on her birthday after the birth of their son Siegfried. A delicate and emotionally carefully crafted work.
Elgar's Enigma Variations
The fourteen variations on a theme represent fourteen individuals from Elgar's circle of friends. To this day, there is speculation about who exactly was immortalised in notes. The transcription for chamber ensemble brings you even closer to all the characters.
Four Seasons Recomposed
For Max Richter, Vivaldi's music felt like a long-standing friendship from an early age. His interpretation of perhaps the most famous piece in the history of classical music sounds surprisingly modern: dreamy and ethereal, with a hint of minimal music here and there.
