Illia Fialko plays Schubert, Chopin and Schumann

In 2025, the Ukrainian pianist Illia Fialko, who at that time was in the final year of his master’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be the stand-in for Youri Egorov in the Dutch movie “YOURI.” The film tells the story of the friendship between two legendary artists — Jan Brokken and Youri Egorov. Illia had to study Youri’s interpretations, body language, and tempos in order to match Egorov’s recordings, which were used in the film. On this evening, Illia steps out of the shadow of Youri Egorov and presents his own interpretations of the pieces featured in the movie.

Illia Fialko moved to the Netherlands in 2018 after graduating from the special music school named after Lysenko in Kyiv, where he studied in the class of Boris Fedorov. After participating in the filming in 2025, he graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with a 10 for his final exam in the class of Professor Naum Grubert. Nowadays, Illia performs across the Netherlands and looks forward to sharing this beautiful programme at his debut recital in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw.
