Under the direction of Antony Hermus, the Concertgebouw Orchestra is performing music by Black American composers. Principal trumpet player Miro Petkov appears as soloist in Wynton Marsalis’s spectacular Trumpet Concerto. In this concerto, we hear a trumpeting elephant, references to the French Baroque style, the blues, Louis Armstrong, the European-Jewish trumpet tradition and much more.
