Eva-Maria Westbroek is the greatest Dutch opera star of the past decades. She was a prima donna assoluta at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Tonight, the soprano is sharing her experience with the youngest generation of singers.

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra invited her as artist in residence. She was the big Wagner, Verdi and Puccini heroine in this building, performing operas in concert during the ZaterdagMatinee. Her performance of the title role in Lady Macbeth of Mtensk at our National Opera was sensational and unforgettable. She sang Sieglinde in The Met in NY, with the Berliner Philharmoniker and at the Wagner festival in Bayreuth.

Five young Great Singers

Five different young talents will present themselves. You will hear opera arias and duets by Mozart, Rossini, and Verdi. These young talents are the international opera stars of tomorrow. The week leading up to this masterclass, they will stay at the Berkenrode estate, having received intense lessons from Westbroek. This festive concert is being both the end ánd the highlight of Berkenrode, the biennial masterclass organized by Stichting Grote Zangers.
