Want to hear Mahler's music in the concert hall? In May 2021, The Concertgebouw will again organize a Mahler Festival. For six days, Mahler's first six symphonies will sound in the Main Hall, performed by great orchestras and conductors, including Jaap van Zweden and Sir Simon Rattle. The Recital Hall is devoted to Mahler's songs for six days.

How can I attend the Mahler Festival Online?

The registrations within the Mahler Festival Online can be viewed free of charge via this website. The registrations can be viewed up to ten days after the original broadcast. Below you will find the broadcast schedule.

Festival per day

Every day of the festival has its own page with the videos of that day, every day a different symphony takes center stage:

The symphonies...
At the heart of the Mahler Festival Online are the nine symphonies of Mahler in great performances by the Concertgebouworkest. Conducted by maestros like Mariss Jansons, Bernard Haitink and Lorin Maazel. Finally, you will also hear Das Lied von der Erde. The symphonies start at 8.30 pm every evening.

...and more!
But there is more: every day at 8 pm you will see a short documentary about the symphony of the evening, there are Empty Concertgebouw Sessions with Thomas Oliemans and the Alma Quartet, and every day at 3 pm an orchestra member looks ahead to the symphony that can be seen in the evening.

The symphonies:

All symphonies are performed by the Concertgebouworkest. All registrations start at 8.30 pm and can be viewed via this website, via Facebook and via YouTube.

Additional Programme:

Preview from the orchestra
Every day an orchestra member of the Concertgebouworkest will preview the symphony at 3.30 pm in a special introduction.

Documentaries - Mahler's Universe
The themes in Mahler's music are universal and relevant to everyone today. With this in mind, and with generous financial support and musicological direction from the Mahler Foundation, the Concertgebouw sent a team of documentary filmmakers around the world. The result is a series of 10 documentaries that introduce the symphonies and Das Lied von der Erde. Musicians and connoisseurs such as Jessye Norman, Jaap van Zweden and Thomas Hampson have their say. The documentaries are shown every evening at 8 pm, prior to the symphonies.

Empty Concertgebouw Sessions
During the Mahler Festival Online, two performances will be broadcast from an empty Concertgebouw. The Alma Quartet, consisting of members of the Concertgebouworkest, will perform an arrangement of the Adagietto from Mahler's Symphony No. 5 and together with pianist Nino Gvetadze the Piano Quartet on May 13 at 12.30 pm. Bariton Thomas Oliemans and pianist Hans Eijsackers present on May 15 at 12.30 pm a program with a selection of songs by Mahler.
