String Quartets on Wednesdays

Outstanding string quartets present a mix of well-known masterpieces and new compositions, often being performed in the Netherlands for the first time. For example, Quatuor Arod will perform not only works by Bartók and Fanny Mendelssohn, but also the European premiere of Warmth from Other Suns, written by our composer-in-residence Carlos Simon. The young quartet Opus13 has chosen, among other pieces, Schubert’s Der Tod und das Mädchen, an absolute masterpiece that touches everyone’s heart. 

The Canadian-American Viano Quartet combines a new work by the Indian-American composer Reena Esmail with music by Dvořák and Mendelssohn, bringing together classical splendour and romantic verve. A brand-new work by the beloved composer and pianist Fazıl Say, performed by the Goldmund Quartett, adds a refreshing and exciting dimension to this series.
