Jawa Manla, living in Amsterdam, is one of Syria's greatest musical talents. Every day she feels what it’s like to leave your motherland behind. On her new album Distant Roots she expresses these emotions in music, with a leading role for Arabic poetry. She is accompanied by Kemençe player Elif Cenvfza Gündüz, cellist Adèle Viret and David González Arnesto on drums. The poetry is recited by Munzer Al Kaddour.
