The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra will perform one of the most famous cello concertos of the twentieth century: Shostakovich's First, with the renowned cellist Truls Mørk as soloist. He coaxes primal sounds from his instrument; Shostakovich would have nodded approvingly. Beethoven's favourite symphony, the Eighth, is also on the programme, which was premiered with the completely deaf composer on the rostrum.
