Scherpdenkers: stories and music that make you think. Today with writer and journalist Geert Mak, pianist Ramon van Engelenhoven, and soprano Taylor Burgess. The programme: America, a democracy saved. In the gloomy 1930s, when fascism and National Socialism set the tone in Europe, the United States chose to defend democracy. During the war years, the foundations were also laid for the United Nations, the beginning of a system of lasting peace. Eighty years later, Geert Mak goes in search of that inspiring America of yesteryear. With music by Gershwin, Stravinsky, Copland and Korngold.
Dutch will be spoken during this concert.
