In his series Nieuwe Blik Terug (‘a new look back’), musician, host and documentary maker Orville Breeveld highlights composers and musicians whom history has unfairly neglected. Tonight, Orville looks at the still largely unknown but fascinating works and lives of female Turkish composers. Who has heard of these queens of Turkish classical music: Nazife Güran (1921-1993), Leyla Saz (1850-1936), Yüksel Koptagel (1931) and Kevser Hanım (1867-1963)? Each of these women has a musical legacy that has to be heard! We’ll bring their music and stories to life, and shine new light on some forgotten history.
