Since 1953, KCOV Excelsior has been performing Bach's St. Matthew Passion in the Holy Week before Easter in the Main Hall of The Concertgebouw. It can rightfully be called a unique experience to listen to a performance by one of the oldest and renowned oratorio choirs in the Netherlands.

Since 1953, KCOV Excelsior has been performing this great work by J.S. Bach in the Holy Week before Easter in the Great Hall of The Concertgebouw. It can rightfully be called a unique experience to listen to a performance by one of the oldest and renowned oratorio choirs in the Netherlands.
KCOV Excelsior
KCOV Excelsior is one of the major oratorio choirs from Amsterdam. The choir was founded in 1885 as an evangelization choir for men only. From 1900 it has been a mixed choir and from 1925 we can carry the designation 'Royal'. The annual tradition of the performance of the St Matthew Passion in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam started in 1953. We are proud to be able to honor this tradition and to be allowed to sing for a full hall every year. Since August 2021, KCOV Excelsior has been singing under the direction of conductor Gerrit Maas.
